Today Hydraquip celebrates its 25th anniversary as the UK’s largest privately owned hose & hydraulics solution provider.

Over the course of twenty five years, Hydraquip established in 1989 has grown from just one location with less than 10 staff to now running from 14 hydraulic trade counter branches, with over 200 staff. From a handful of on site hose repair vans, to now operating the UK’s largest national independent fleet of on site hose repairs. The company originally offered fluid power related products from a small single trade unit operating from Crawley, since then it has expanded to a nationwide multi-million pound company which has diversified into a variety of different marketplaces that predominantly fall into four divisions which is reflected in the Group’s set up as it trades as independent market leading companies: Hydraquip Hose & Hydraulics, Hydraquip Braided Hose Division, Hydraquip Metal Hose Division and Linden Hose & Adaptors Ltd.

As the Group celebrate their silver jubilee Founder and Managing Director Duncan MacBain reflects on the previous two and a half decades “one of the keys to our success and one of the company’s most valuable assets is our staff. We value our team, they are the ones that keep the company moving forward, therefore Hydraquip invest in ways on improving employee engagement, understanding each individual has different motivations for working, setting a good forward thinking working culture, and showing praise and appreciation for good work.’  MacBain added ‘Showing employees trust by giving them responsibility and room to develop adds volumes to their self esteem, resulting in a better performance.’

As part of the company’s celebrations, Hydraquip will give its customers, suppliers, and friends an insight of their staff, a ‘Meet The Team’ section is available from today on its website and will run throughout the whole of August showcasing a different member of its team each day.

Plans For Hydraquip

Keeping inline with current plans and funding, The Hydraquip Group will invest on recruiting trained and experienced hose engineers / plant fitters to continue its fleet expansion on exceeding 100 on site hose service vehicles and recruiting additional staff with knowledge in hydraulics to open a further six branches by 2016. The Group recognises a good workforce attracts further talent which has been true for Hydraquip, with many skilled hydraulic professionals applying directly to the UK’s leading hydraulic firm.

Simultaneously the continuous growth of the dynamic firm in recent years has been both organically and via acquisitions, especially where companies have found themselves in difficulty. Hydraquip has one of the most successful track records in the UK of turn around and rescue of companies in the hydraulic, fluid power sector. One of the key principles to a smooth transition is retaining existing employees to continue the relationship, understanding the full requirements of a customer. Full training including a warm welcome is always provided to staff in these situations.

As The Hydraquip Group reaches its 25th anniversary, the start of their year (2014) has proven to be an exciting one, with two new branches having opened earlier this year with further hydraulic branches set to open within the coming months, additional on site hose repair vans commissioned, a new 7000sq ft building purchased to move its Strood Hydraulic Trade Counter to a larger premises, along with a recruitment process underway to grow and develop the team. Further plans for the next few years will see the continuation of the recipe that has taken Hydraquip to the heights it has already achieved with new branch openings and acquisitions, expansion being key in taking the company forward.
